Leslie Hunt

Performing Arts - Vocalist, Songwriter, Multi-Instrumentalist

  • Reached Top Ten on American Idol season 6

  • Lead vocalist for progressive rock band District 97

Leslie Hunt, a native of St. Charles, Illinois, is a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist known for her solo work, her role as frontwoman for the progressive rock band District 97, and as a contestant on American Idol. She blends indie, prog rock, pop, and jazz influences into a distinctive and dynamic style.

Born into a musical family and granddaughter of St. Charles civic leader Max Hunt, Leslie began piano lessons at age four with a Chicago Symphony Orchestra member and performed at Pheasant Run Theater in productions such as The Music Man and Fiddler on the Roof. Grammy winner Jim Peterik mentored her early songwriting efforts. She graduated from St. Charles High School in 2000 and studied music composition at the Chicago College of Performing Arts, where she joined District 97, one of the few female-led bands in the progressive rock genre.

After a health scare in 2006, Hunt auditioned for Season 6 of American Idol in Los Angeles, reaching the Top Ten Female Vocalists. She has toured extensively with District 97 across Europe and North America and released acclaimed solo albums and EPs. She uses her performances to support causes close to her heart, including the Lupus Foundation of America, having been diagnosed with Lupus at age six.

Hunt returned to St. Charles after living in Los Angeles and Chicago, dedicating herself to teaching voice and piano. In 2022, she founded the Hunt House Arts Center, a community space for music, songwriting, and visual arts. Her work as a visual artist, educator, and performer continues to inspire the community, and she remains actively involved with the St. Charles Chamber of Commerce and Arts Council, performing at local festivals and mentoring young artists.
